HOT TUB FAQ'S

Are hot tubs good for you?

Hot tubs come with a lot of physical and mental health benefits.

Firstly, hot tubs provide a relaxing environment for people to unwind at the end of a long day to help relieve stress and promote relaxation.

They also have a detoxing affect on the body. Due to the heat from a hot tub, you’ll begin to sweat, which will then help remove toxins from your body to improve your skin and circulation.

If you’re recovering from injury, hot tubs can help with rehabilitation. This is because the jets in a hot tub can help stimulate cell growth, boost circulation, increase blood supply and produce more white blood cells. Please note: If you have just undergone an operation or are returning from injury, always consult with your doctor before getting into a hot tub.

Sufferers from fibromyalgia and arthritis may also benefit from a hot tub thanks to the heat which can relieve inflammation through improved circulation.

Hot tubs will also help you ward-off infections, viruses and colds as they’ll help reinforce your immune system by increasing the production of white blood cells.

However, some people should avoid hot tubs. The NHS advise pregnant women should avoid using hot tubs as it could lead to overheating, dehydration and fainting as you’re likely to feel warmer than usual when pregnant.

Also, if you have heart disease, caution is advised. This is because hot tubs can cause blood pressure to drop and your heart to speed up.

If you have an illness and are unsure whether a hot tub will have a positive or negative effect, always consult your doctor or GP first.

How much does it cost to run a hot tub?

This can vary depending on a number of factors, including: the size of your hot tub, how much you use a hot tub, the hot tub manufacturer, cost of your energy supply and climate you’re living in.

With that in mind, we can’t give you a definitive answer. But we can give you some idea based on these set of assumptions:

  • You have an average energy tariff of 13p per kWh
  • You’re using the hot tub 4 times a week use for 30 minutes a time
  • You have bought a relatively new hot tub model

On the above assumptions, a hot tub will cost you approximately £4-5 a week to run.

Can you go into a hot tub while pregnant?

The NHS advise pregnant women should avoid using hot tubs as it could lead to overheating, dehydration and fainting as you’re likely to feel warmer than usual when pregnant.

What is a 32 amp hot tub?

32 amps is the amount of power required to run a standard hot tub. It will allow you to run a hot tub heater for 3 to 4 hours to maintain a consistent temperature.

Can you put a hot tub on decking?

It is certainly possible to put a hot tub on decking, but there are a number of safety factors you need to consider before making that decision. This includes:

  • Weight of the hot tub
  • Weight of the hot tub with water and people in
  • The structural foundations of your decking

It’s also worth noting that additional reinforcements can be put in place to reinforce the decking and help it cope with any extra weight.

How long does it take to heat up a hot tub?

The length of time it takes to heat up a hot tub depends on: the power of the hot tub heating element, how hot you want the hot tub, the outside temperature and whether the hot tub is covered.

Most hot tubs will raise the water temperature by 3-6 degrees per hour, so it’ll take approximately 4 hours to heat a hot tub.

A hot tub will heat-up quicker if:

  • It’s warm outside
  • The hot tub is in good working condition
  • You have the hot tub cover on to prevent heat from escaping

How heavy is a hot tub?

Tubs Direct hot tubs weigh between 280kg and 450kg, depending on the size of the models and its capacity.

Can children go in hot tubs?

A hot tub can be a great source of entertainment and fun for children in their own garden and a brilliant way to spend quality time with the family.

Children can go into hot tubs but it’s also important to be careful. If, when standing, the water level is above your child’s head, then they need to be supervised.

Other things to be aware of when your children are in a hot tub is: hot tub temperature so it’s not too high, using anti-slip steps and making sure they’re not in the hot tub too long to avoid dehydration.

What chemicals do I need for a hot tub?

It’s important to get the right chemicals for your hot tub to keep it clean, maintain healthy pH levels (between 7.2 and 7.8), kill bacteria and keep the water clear and stabilised with the right level of hardness.

With that in mind, we recommend the following chemicals for your hot tub:

Chlorine or bromine. Chlorine is cheaper and effective at killing bacteria, while bromine is more expensive, but works better at higher temperatures and won’t cause the irritation chlorine sometimes does.

Shock treatments. Shock treatments can break down waste, such as bacteria and body oil, that can’t be filtered and can cause the water to become cloudy. We recommend you use a shock treatment every 2 weeks or more depending on usage.

Hardness increaser. A hardness increaser will raise the calcium levels in your hot tub water. Use with caution though as too much calcium will cause the water to become cloudy.

How much does a hot tub cost?

Our hot tubs cost between £3,999 for smaller models and £13,399 for the very best in our range that come with the most advanced technology.

SAUNA FAQ'S

Are saunas good for you?

Saunas come with some great health benefits, these include:

  • Stress reduction
  • Post-workout recovery
  • Post-injury recovery
  • Removal of toxins
  • Improved brain health
  • Better and deeper sleep
  • Skin cleansing

alleviation of stress, improved relaxation and improved pain relief, stiffness and fatigue.

However, it is advised that you avoid saunas or consult with a doctor before using one, particularly if you have a condition including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Breathing difficulties/conditions
  • Heart disease
  • Pregnancy
  • Epilepsy
  • High or low blood pressure

Do saunas help you lose weight?

While some believe saunas improve weight loss, there’s little evidence to suggest using a sauna is an effective way to lose weight.

While it can help soothe muscle and aid post-exercise recovery, it won’t do much for weight loss through increasing sweat alone.

Are saunas good for your skin?

Saunas can have a detoxifying effect and help flush toxins out of your skin via sweating. This is because saunas will cause your body heat to rise and stimulate sweat production, which is called “deep sweating” and leads to reduced levels of lead, copper, zinc, nickel and mercury.

What is an infrared sauna?

An infrared sauna uses infrared lamps to heat your body, unlike traditional saunas that heat the air around you.

With an infrared sauna, you’re being heated directly by the infrared lamps - which is more efficient and penetrates more deeply at a lower temperature. And because you’re surrounded by a lower temperature, you’ll be able to stay in the sauna for longer periods of time.

Are infrared saunas safe?

Infrared saunas are safe for the vast majority of people.

However, if you have a medical condition, we advise you consult your doctor or GP before using a sauna. This can include people with the following, but not limited to, conditions:

  • Low blood pressure
  • Kidney disease
  • People on blood pressure-reducing medication
  • Weak immune system
  • Heart conditions
  • Unhealed wounds
  • Pregnancy
  • Nerve and motor function conditions

Is it safe to use a sauna with a pacemaker?

It’s best to consult with your doctor or GP before using a sauna if you have a pacemaker to be on the safe side.

Even if you have been advised you can use a sauna if you have a pacemaker, you should do cautiously, for no longer than 20 minutes and with another person in case of an emergency.
