What does a hot tub cover do?

Hot tub covers are really important for when you’re not using your hot tub. They keep debris, such as leaves from entering and muddying the water. And hot tub covers can also be used for safety purposes, such as preventing children or even small animals from falling in.

Hot tub covers can also help trap heat, which can save you money on heating hot tubs in the long run.

What are the different types of hot tub covers?

There are three main types of hot tub cover, each coming with different features and benefits.

Soft cover

A soft hot tub cover is made from vinyl fabric which is stretched over the hot tub, a bit like a fitted bedsheet. Soft covers are lightweight and more affordable, but aren’t as durable or trap heat as well as some other covers.

Hard covers

Hard hot tub covers have a vinyl and foam core and made specifically to the dimensions of the hot tub. The big benefits of this is durability and the cover’s ability to trap heat effectively. However, they can be a touch on the heavy side and usually require two people to lift it when they need removing for use.

Aluminium covers

Lightweight aluminium hot tub covers are made of styrofoam and aluminum. They’re long lasting and feature minimal water absorption, but they don’t trap heat as effectively as other covers.

What are the different types of hot tub cover lifters?

Hot tub cover lifters are designed to make light-work of lifting a hot tub cover, which can be heavy and cumbersome. Here are the different types of hot tub cover lifters:

Hydraulic cover lifter

The beauty of a hydraulic hot tub cover lifter? You barely have to do a thing. They come with a bigger price tag than a manual cover lifter, but for many it’s worth it. You simply have to provide light assistance to guide the cover on and off, which little effort or pressure required by the user.

Manual pivot cover lifter

You can mount a manual pivot cover lifter on the back, sides or bottom of your hot tub and make life a little easier when it comes to removing your hot tub cover. With a metal bar as assistance, you fold the cover in half in the middle, lift upwards then push it back. It requires more effort than a hydraulic cover lifter, but they also come at a more affordable price point.

Shelf cover lifter

If the weight of the cover isn’t an issue to you, then a shelf cover lifter can be a super-affordable option. Unlike a manual pivot or hydraulic lifter, it doesn’t take any of the weight of the cover. Instead, it’s there for you to place the cover while you’re in the hot tub.

Electric cover lifter

For ultimate ease, an electric cover lifter will take the strain out of removing your hot tub cover. Most come remote controlled, so at the click of a button, your hot tub cover will automatically lift and fold away. It’s as simple as that.
